Cherokee Loom Weaving
A Long Rich History
Loom weaving was introduced into Cherokee communities after European contact. Later, in the 20th century, a network of weaving shops were established in Cherokee Nation and sister shops were established in other Oklahoma tribal nations. Loom weaving is not as prevalent in contemporary communities. However, through the mentorship of weavers like Dorothy Dreadfulwater Ice, new loom weavers are learning this art form.
